Return to Play Policy Following Medical Clearance After Injury
1. Medical Clearance Requirement
-
Athletes must provide written medical clearance from a licensed healthcare provider (e.g., physician, athletic trainer, nurse practitioner, or physical therapist, depending on state regulations) before resuming participation.
-
The clearance note must include:
-
Injury diagnosis
-
Confirmation that the athlete is safe to resume physical activity
-
Any activity restrictions or limitations
-
Recommended progression plan (if applicable)
-
2. Communication of Clearance
-
The clearance document must be submitted to the Athletic Trainer, Coach, or Athletic Director before the athlete participates in any practice, conditioning, or game.
-
The coaching staff and training staff will be notified of the athlete’s clearance and any restrictions.
3. Special Considerations
-
For concussions, the Concussion-Specific RTP Protocol must be followed in addition to this policy.
Non-Compliance
Athletes who do not follow the RTP progression or who return without proper clearance will be withheld from participation until all requirements are met.
