MUSIC PROGRAM

At Saint John Vianney High School, our student musicians take courses in band, choir, guitar, piano, or general music from our music instructor. Many students take elective courses in music to round out their educational experiences. Beyond the classroom, our music organizations provide various services to the school community. The LITURGICAL CHOIR performs at all school masses, and LANCER HARMONIES performs during the Christmas Season and other special events.

Saint John Vianney sponsors a chapter of the international music honor society known as Tri-M. Tri-M Music Honor Society is a high school student's international music honor society. It is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments, and to inspire other students to excel at music and leadership. Through more than 5,500 chartered chapters, Tri-M has helped thousands of young people provide years of service through music in schools worldwide. Tri-M is a program of the National Association for Music Education.

THEATER PROGRAM

Our Theater Program at Saint John Vianney High School, LANCER PRODUCTIONS, offers our student thespians practical experiences in all aspects of theater, including acting, singing, dancing, technical production work, and academic studies.

LANCER PRODUCTIONS presents two to three major productions during the school year. Our theater director chooses productions that best showcase our student's talents. Students can find "leading roles" not only on the stage but as a Student Director, Student Choreographer or Student Stage Manager, and all work closely with professionals in the field to learn the craft firsthand. The technical crew is essential to all productions, where students assist with lighting, sound, costumes, props, and stage setup.

LANCER HARMONIES

An ensemble that focuses on vocal skills and technique, specifically in contemporary popular music, musical theater, vocal jazz, and collegiate-style a cappella. This ensemble learns music reading skills, and staging and choreography, for each number. As an extra-curricular activity that begins in September, students rehearse multiple times weekly after school and some weekends. They perform several times a year in addition to occasional outside-of-school performances.

LITURGICAL CHOIR

An ensemble of SJVHS students who lead the music for each of our school Masses. Students learn skills for choral singing, including unison and two/three-part harmony. Student members are offered the opportunity to grow in their faith as prayer leaders through their ministry at school liturgies, including our monthly liturgies, The Memorial Mass, Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Baccalaureate Masses. Student musicians often accompany singers. The ensemble seeks to encourage active participation in the liturgy through song and sings a variety of contemporary and praise/worship selections.
