Following the Saint John Vianney High School Mission Statement, the members of the Business/Technology Department strive to reflect the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Roman Catholic tradition by committing itself to forming productive citizens of God’s kingdom and the world.

Goals

The Business/Technology Department has an ever increasing importance in the academic life at Saint John Vianney High School. The Business and Technology curriculum aims:

• To teach software applications and have students become aware of their relevance to current and future academic endeavors.
• To prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century by utilizing technology within Saint John Vianney High School's academics programs.
• To teach business concepts and their applications.
• To promote critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving.
• To stimulate the imagination, awaken creativity, and evoke self-expression.
• To foster an appreciation of our cultural wealth and ethnic diversity.

English Department Mission

Following the Saint John Vianney High School Mission Statement, the members of the English Department strive to reflect the Gospel message and the tradition of Roman Catholic education in order to mold their students into becoming “citizens of God’s kingdom and the world.”

GOALS

The English Department members of Saint John Vianney High School reinforce the school philosophy of caring for their “students’ educational and spiritual needs” by providing opportunities for each student to become an effective communicator, by emphasizing the aesthetic nature of literature, and by enjoining their students (through the members’ own actions) to reflect God’s love in their lives.  The English curriculum aims:

• To advance the study of language through reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing.
• To present literature which addresses universal questions effecting students’ emotional, intellectual, and spiritual growth.
• To promote critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving.
• To stimulate the imagination, awaken creativity, and evoke self-expression.
• To foster an appreciation of our cultural wealth and ethnic diversity.
• To integrate the study of English language and literature with other academic disciplines.
• To prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century by utilizing technology within the academic program.
• To model and encourage a life-long love of learning.

Fine Arts Department

You are invited to explore the Fine Arts Department, as well as the entire Arts Program at Saint John Vianney High School. Students who are involved in our program often continue to develop their skills in college and in their local communities. Our faculty and staff members who teach, advise, or coach students in our program are practitioners of their craft. 

MISSION

The Mathematics Department of Saint John Vianney High School is committed to a vision of excellence in mathematics education, based on the twin premises that all students can learn mathematics and that all students need to learn mathematics. Our plan of success for all students in mathematics depends on establishing learning environments that facilitate student learning of mathematics, and on a commitment to equity and to excellence.

GOALS

To compete in today's global, information-based economy, Mathematics Department recognizes that students must be able to solve real problems, reason effectively, and make logical connections.   Students should know that success in mathematics is a critical gateway to success in their careers, citizenship, and lives.  The mathematics curriculum strives to:

• Achieve maximal development of the mathematical power of each student according to his/her ability, utilizing technology with the academic program.
• Provide courses necessary to develop functional competence in mathematics needed for hgih school graduation and entrance in college and the business world.
• Connect mathematics, its ideas, and its applications in order to move away from treating mathematics as a body of isolated concepts and procedures.
• Recongnize the sequential importance of information, procedure, and results.
• Develop mathematically literate workers and lifelong learners.

Mission

 The Health and Physical Education Department of Saint John Vianney High School will provide the necessary tools to help the students reach optimum wellness while adhering to the Christian values set forth in the school’s philosophy. The students will be able to set up a blueprint for life as they learn to incorporate the components of fitness i.e. strength, endurance and flexibility into a well-constructed fitness routine to help meet the demands for daily living. The students will learn the relationship between exercise and diet as they learn specific skills, rules and techniques of sport as well as good sportsmanship and socialization skills needed to function in today’s society.

Goals

The Health and Physical Education Department:

• Provides the students with the principles of fitness to help them achieve optimum fitness throughout life.
• Presents materials so the students have a working knowledge of nutrition and how it effects the body, now and in the future.
• Makes the students aware of influences on health and the importance of accepting responsibility for their own health.
• Ensures that the students will be able to identify the classifications of drugs, as well as being able to state reasons why people abuse drugs.
• Provides the students with the knowledge of how to say “NO” through the use of refusal skills.
• Uses other disciplines to help supplement pertinent information given to the students about relevant health issues.

Mission

The learning process involves the spiritual, social and scientific interactions that result in the discovery of new relationships, which later can be applied to modern problems and a Catholic lifestyle. The Science Department places emphasis on development of the ability to solve these problems through the use of the scientific method. Since we live in a dynamic and changing environment, we are faced with new problems and situations every day. We recognize the sacred character of life and in accordance, strive to instill in our students a sense of responsibility toward all life.

Goals

The Science Department:

• Instills, in the students, an appreciation for the relationship of Catholic traditions and modern science
• Stimulates curiosity and the desire to learn
• Encourages the use of logic in the learning process
• Encourages the use of logic in the application of knowledge gained
• Instills, in the students, an appreciation of themselves and their environment
• Guides students in the direction of using the scientific method
• Coordinates the contributions of different disciplines
• Obtains a comprehensive perception of the natural sciences

Mission

The Social Studies Department believes that mankind will reach full brotherhood only when individuals come to accept each other’s uniqueness and fundamental civil rights. We are dedicated to preparing our young people to contribute to American society as viable citizens who uphold the values of the Catholic Church.  Students will also be encouraged to understand and participate in their civic duty as active participants in the electoral process and to hold accountable their elected leaders.

Goals

The Social Studies Department aims:

• To provide students with knowledge and understanding of the globe; the world's peoples, cultural origins, lifestyles, and present day government; the past and present history of the United States; the evolution and growth of American Democracy; the growth and development of our political institutions; the present day functions of our government and its interactions with the world.
• To foster the importance of civic responsibilities.
• To give students the opportunity to explore further any area of Social Studies electives, contributing to their understanding of the importance of Catholic Social justice and their roleas citizens.

MISSION

The Theology Department at Saint John Vianney High School provides a thorough and comprehensive Theology curriculum founded upon the teachings of Jesus and the traditions of the Roman Catholic Church.

Goals

The Theology Department strives to:

• Provide a clarity and commitment to a moral and virtuous life fixed upon the living Gospel of Jesus Christ.
• Educate our students in the dogmas and principles of faith in the Roman Catholic Church, while providing students with an avenue for serious religious academic study, as well as a critical and emphatic thinking of their faith.
• Offer students with opportunities to transcend individual wants and desires by reaching out to others and infusing in them a sense of ministry based upon the precepts of Catholic Social Justice.
• Develop and maintain within our community a sense of prayer and offering.
• Cultivate competence and understanding in the history and culture of the Roman Catholic Church, as well as the major world religions.
• Encourage and nurture within our students a sense of maturity and civility, self-reliance and accountability, pride in their work, and independent thinking.

Mission

The World Language Department have as their mission to instill a love for and understanding of the diverse languages and peoples of the world in a way that always reflects the traditions and values of the Roman Catholic Church. We believe that students will learn to be tolerant and accepting of others if they are encouraged to show the respect that Jesus Christ had for all people.

GOALS

The World Language Department:

• Instills our Roman Catholic values and traditions in our students, always making this a priority.
• Affords students the opportunities to develop skills whereby they might better communicate with the many diverse cultures and peoples of the world.
• Encourages the students' appreciation of cultural origins and lifestyles of the people whose language they are studying.
• Promotes sharing with other academic disciplines.
• Incorporates technology in our classrooms whenever possible to enhance students' achievement.
