Purpose of Christian Service
For the first three years at Saint John Vianney High School, students learn about God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and Catholicism in their Theology classes. These are very important aspects of learning how to be a Christian. But during students’ senior year at SJVHS, we address another important aspect of being a Christian that students cannot learn in a classroom – service.
The purpose of our Christian Service Program is provide students with frequent opportunities – at least once a week during senior religious studies classes – to apply the knowledge and skills they learn in class to practical use, to be like Christ who served others completely. At Saint John Vianney High School, we facilitate our students’ development into mature Catholic-Christian adults, and performing Christian Service is an integral part of that. Service to others at no cost to oneself is one of the most significant parts of being a Catholic-Christian.
