Senior Independent Service Hours

Independent Service Hours Guidelines

As part of the Christian Service Program, Seniors are required to complete 20 hours of independent service during their senior year.  Guidelines for this requirement are as follows:

  • Students must complete a minimum of 20 hours of service
  • Independent service hours must be completed between 4/1/12 and 3/31/13
  • Hours will not be counted if they are done for family
  • Hours will not be counted if they are required by another organization/agency/club, e.g., boy/girl scouts, confirmation, school club, court mandate, etc.

Requirement for Graduation

Independent Service Hours are required for graduation.  Students who fail to submit the 20 hours will not receive a diploma.

Submitting Independent Service Hours

Students must submit completed hours to the Christian Service Coordinator in order to be given credit for the hours.  These hours will also be counted toward the Community Service Award.  You may download the form (Service Verification Form) or fill out the online form.

Independent Service Hours & Christian Service Assignment

During their senior Theology class, students are given a Christian Service Assignment to a local community organization or to a teacher/office at SJV.  Students will attend this assigned service weekly as required by the senior Theology curriculum.  The Christian Service Assignment does not count toward Independent Service Hours.
